Highway 111 is one of the strangest, yet incredible places I have ever been. It has an apocalyptic feel yet so full of life at the same time. I'll let the pictures do the talking...

The roads are empty - there is nothing for miles!

Drive to Salvation Mountain - it is incredible! Leonard Knight created this to show his dedication to God.

After wandering around Salvation Mountain, head to Slab City. It is like nothing I've ever seen before. You will know when you are close when you see the welcome sign below:

Slab City - also known as 'The Last Free City in America', is free to camp and a home for alternative living. It is known as Slab City due to the slabs that are left from the previous military base.

Tree of Soles.

After checking out Slab City and it's individuality, head back towards Bombay Beach. Once a thriving beach resort, it is now derelict and one of the poorest communities in California. In fact, the beach is mostly fish guts and bones! Hold your breath - the smell is unreal.
